Introduction to Health Literacy

Introduction to Health Literacy webinar is the first in a series of two webinars to be developed under the project Person Centred Care (PCC), funded by the National Diabetes Service Scheme.


The aim of the PCC project is to develop and sustain Person Centred and Health Literate practices in every aspect of the work of a CDE. The objective of the PCC project is to produce and implement evidence-informed, accessible resources and programs to enable CDEs to integrate person-centred care and health literacy into their everyday practice and to monitor and review the impact of these changes. This webinar is designed for CDEs, health practitioners and policy/program officers involved in providing direct patient care or developing resources for people with diabetes. The webinar aims to:


Ambreen Mirza, Project Officer (Clinical Specialist), Centre for Culture, Ethnicity and Health (CEH), Victoria

Ambreen joined CEH in December 2014. She has a Bachelor and Master degree in Psychology and has worked in community mental health for more than 12 years with a special focus on psychological trauma. Ambreen has a strong background in human rights and its application both in Australia and internationally. For the last four years, she has worked directly with migrant and refugee communities in Melbourne delivering services to facilitate settlement and increase community participation. Ambreen is an experienced trainer and has developed and delivered numerous training modules for the community and service providers on a range of issues, including leadership, health literacy, cultural competence in counselling, and family violence.
